Our Work

Dithaba delivers innovative civil engineering and building solutions for the petroleum industry.

Dithaba mostly works with oil companies at their storage depots doing the following:

- Construction of concrete ring beams for large 5 – 10 million litres.
- Construction of bund walls up to 3 meter high around tanks to contain any fuel should leaks occur.
- Construction and sealing of bund floors to prevent contamination of the soil during leaks.
- Construction of foundation for pumps bays and VRU plants.
- Repair Concrete driveways.
- Construction and rehabilitation of bulk truck loading facilities both civil and mechanical work.
- Drainage projects, which include laying of pipes, concrete floors and alteration to the separator structures.

Completed projects

Project 1

Bulk tanks (Alrode) | Project cost: R3 million

Client: Chevron

This consisted of a set of 2 x 10 million litre and 2 x 5 million-liter storage tanks. We had to excavate 2 meters deep for the ring beams over its area and then backfill with 200-300 mm rock on top of, which the +/- 30-meter ring beams would be resting.

The ring bund of the 10 million liter tanks were1, 8 meters high and600 mm wide reinforced with steel. After completion of the beams the steel tanks were erected. The tanks were then filled with water to check for leaks and settlement of the bases.

Project 2

Bund walls and floors (Alrode) | Project cost: R2, 7 million

Client: Chevron

This consisted of erecting bund walls around the tanks to create a holding dam should there be any leaks on the tanks. The bund walls were 60m x 80mgoing 3 meter high and 250mm thick. All joints between the cast sections had to be sealed using jointex and polysulfide joint sealer.

After a major section of the walls had been completed the earth works for the floor began followed by the laying of 75mm concrete floors reinforced by fibers. To prevent cracking joints were space at 3m x 3m with MMC curing compound. The slab was slope so as to direct any rainwater toward the drains.

Project 3

New bulk truck loading (Alrode) | +/- R11 million

Client: Chevron

This project consisted of enlarging the existing loading facilities. A new roof and floor was installed with folding stairs for access from the floors to the trucks.

All islands and bays were replaced and sealed. All this work took place without hindering the depo’s day to day loading of the trucks. All pipelines including firewater water pipes were replaced and for the first time provision was also made for future vapour recovery.

Project 4

Drainage project (Alrode) | +/- R6 million

Client: Chevron

All existing bundied areas at Chevron Alroad depot had to be sealed by casting with a 75mm concrete slab with a 3 x 3 blocks sealed with polysulfide. Alteration to the existing separator pit was also done.

All islands and bays were replaced and sealed. All this work took place without hindering the depo’s day to day loading of the trucks. All pipelines including firewater water pipes were replaced and for the first time provision was also made for future vapour recovery.
